LITTLE ROCK, Ark. -- Laura Chambers Rhame, 92, formerly of Cape Girardeau, Mo., died Aug. 14, 2012, at the Parkway Health Center in Little Rock. LITTLE ROCK, Ark. -- Laura Chambers Rhame, 92, formerly of Cape Girardeau, Mo., died Aug. 14, 2012, at the Parkway Health Center in Little Rock.

Born July 23, 1920, in Bricksboro, N.J., to the late Anthony and Ada Chambers, she was a member of Calvary Nazarene Church and also loved Parkway Place Baptist Church where her grandson, Greg Kelley, is on the pastoral staff.

She and her husband, a speaker and musician of the Nazarene denomination, travelled together for speaking engagements in over 140 cities throughout the country for eight years following their wedding after which they were called to build a church in Sebring, Fla. They pastored in Sebring and Miami; Syracuse, N.Y., Memphis, Tenn., Jasper, Ala., Tyler, Texas, Sikeston, Mo., and Phoenix, Ariz., before retiring in Cape Girardeau where she resided until 2004 when she moved to Maumelle to live with her daughter and son-in-law.

Throughout the years, Laura served as a church pianist, Sunday school teacher, missionary president and youth worker. Upon their move to Cape Girardeau, she worked for JC Penney and Company until the death of her husband. After his death, she became a volunteer for St. Francis Hospital. In 2004, she received the Distinguished Service Award, the highest award given from the Nazarene Headquarters in Kansas City.

On Aug. 15, 1936, she married the Rev. John Rhame who preceded her in death in 1986.

In addition to her husband and parents, Laura was also preceded in death by five sisters and two brothers.

She is survived by: a daughter and son-in-law, Carolyn and Ted Kelley of Maumelle; a son and daughter-in-law, Paul and Jana Rhame of Festus, Mo.; and six grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

Visitation is scheduled from 3 p.m. until time for a celebration of her life at 4 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 18, 2012, at the Ford and Sons Funeral Home on Mount Auburn Road in Cape Girardeau.

Gravesite services will follow at Cape County Memorial Park Cemetery in Cape Girardeau with the Rev. Greg Kelley officiating.
