SIKESTON -- Officers with Sikeston Department of Public Safety now have a suspect in the shooting that occurred Wednesday afternoon.
Ricky Dewayne Davis Jr., 26, of Sikeston, is now being charged with assault in the first degree and armed criminal action with a bond of $50,000 cash only.
Davis is charged in the incident that took place around 12:30 p.m. Wednesday in the 1400 block of West Murray Lane. After receiving a report of shots fired, DPS officers responded to the area and learned a subject had been shot and taken by personal vehicle to Missouri Delta Medical Center.
The victim, identified as Leopha R. Winfield, 34, of Sikeston, had a gunshot wound to his abdomen. According to DPS, he is currently in stable condition, recuperating in the hospital.
DPS investigators then began working the case and learned the incident stemmed from an argument. Information led detectives to Davis.
