SIKESTON -- Grover Cleveland Lindsey, 93, died Dec. 21, 2012, at the Miner Nursing Center. Born Dec. 14, 1919, in Hamilton, Ala., to the late William and Annie Ballard Lindsey, he served in the U.S. Navy during World War II, stationed in the Pacific. He was a self-employed auto mechanic and a member of Sikeston VFW Post 1374.
On Dec. 23, 1939, in New Madrid, he married Pearl Zachary, who survives of the home.
Other survivors include: two sons and daughters-in-law, Merlin and Linda Lindsey of Hernando, Miss., and Bill and Barbara Lindsey of Sikeston; one daughter, Harriet Simmons of McKinney, Texas; five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one son, Gary Lindsey; two brothers and two sisters.
Visitation was held today at the Nunnelee Funeral Chapel. Graveside services followed at the Garden of Memories Cemetery, with the Rev. Kelley Grubbs, pastor of Murray Lane Baptist Church in Sikeston, officiating.
