Lady Devils fall to Senath 81-64
BROSELEY -- Unable to rebound from a rough first half, the Chaffee Lady Devils fell 81-64 to Senath-Hornersville in the consolation semifinals of the Lady Royal Christmas Classic Tournament on Friday.
"We came out and had to overcome some things," Chaffee head coach Darrin Pruitt said. "The girls played hard. We're streaky sometimes and this just happened to be one of those games."
The Lady Devils trailed by 12 points entering the second quarter and by halftime faced a 44-19 deficit.
After scoring only five points in the first half, Chaffee sophomore Jordan Pruitt broke out for 13 points in the third quarter alone and by the fourth cut their deficit to 60-41.
The Lady Devils closed to within 14 with six minutes to play only to see an 8-3 run push them back out by 19 midway through the quarter.
The Lady Lions maintained that lead well into the final minute of the game to hold on for the win.
"We figured out how we could play towards that second half versus how we're use to playing," Darrin Pruitt said. "We figured out how we could go after it.
"They started making those strides, but you start swapping basket for basket and putting people on the free throw line (and you run out of time)."
Jordan Pruitt led the Lady Devils with 24 points on the night, hitting four of Chaffee's seven 3-pointers on the night.
Adrienne Eichhorn was second on the squad with 14 points while Julia Sutterfield had 11, including a pair of 3-pointers.
For Senath, Tori Brown had a 36 point effort that was easily a game-high while teammate Rachel Tom finished with 23.
The loss ends Chaffee's tournament run and drops the Lady Devils to 5-5 on the season.
