HUMBOLDT, Tenn. -- Maxi Blackman, 65, formerly of East Prairie, Mo., died Dec. 28, 2012, in the Humboldt General Hospital. Born Dec. 23, 1947, in Cairo, Ill., to the late James Albert and Daisy Blanche Maxwell Blackman, he lived in Jackson, Tenn., most of his life where he was employed as an assistant housing director and also in the security department for Union University in Jackson until his retirement. ...

HUMBOLDT, Tenn. -- Maxi Blackman, 65, formerly of East Prairie, Mo., died Dec. 28, 2012, in the Humboldt General Hospital.

Born Dec. 23, 1947, in Cairo, Ill., to the late James Albert and Daisy Blanche Maxwell Blackman, he lived in Jackson, Tenn., most of his life where he was employed as an assistant housing director and also in the security department for Union University in Jackson until his retirement. After retiring he worked at the Walmart Supercenter in Jackson in the produce department. A U.S. Army veteran serving during the Vietnam War, he was of the Baptist faith.

Survivors include: one brother, Phil Blackman of the Dogwood, Mo., community; one niece and her husband, Ashley and Gary Harper of the Dogwood community; three great nieces, Lauren Magee, Jordan Harper and Madison Harper; and one great nephew, Kalyn Harper.

Besides his parents, one brother, Randall Lee "Randy" Blackman, preceded him in death.

Visitation will begin at 5 p.m. Sunday at the Shelby Funeral Home in East Prairie, where funeral services are scheduled for 11 a.m. Monday. George White will officiate.

Burial will follow in the Dogwood Cemetery.
