Bulldogs sending four to state wrestling meet

FARMINGTON -- Four Sikeston wrestlers will be going to the 2013 state championship wrestling meet at Mizzou Arena in Columbia.

Jacob Stinnett, Cody Middleton, Garrett Middleton and Tarrington Marks all finished in the top four inside their respective weight classes following the Class 3, District 1 tournament at Farmington High School.

All four wrestlers qualified as the fourth place seed from their district.

Stinnett (138), a senior, goes into the state meet with a record of 33-10. This will be his third-straight trip. His first match in the state tournament will by Trevor Feagans from Carthage who enters with a 46-1 record.

Senior Cody Middleton (126) is making his first trip to state with a record of 33-7. His first test will be against Tyler Janes (47-4) from Hannibal High School.

Garrett Middleton (106), a freshman and also Cody's younger brother, enters with a record of 30-7. Platte County's Matthew Schmitt (36-8) will be waiting for Garrett Middleton in the first round.

Marks, who enters the state meet with a record of 26-12 and is also making his first state appearance, will face Neosho's Christian Lopez (47-5). Marks, a senior who wrestles in the 220-pound division, heads to state with a 26-12 record.

In Class 1, the New Madrid County Central Eagles are sending six wrestlers following the Class 1, District 1 tournament at Whitfield High School in St. Louis.

Austin Cummins (182), Garrett Manley (126), Blade Perkins (195), Rhiley Smith (120), Bryce Smith (132) and Brandon Western (285) all qualified for NMCC.

The Dexter Bearcats have seven wrestlers heading to the state meet.

Dylan Brazarian (152), Cameron Cratt (285), Storm Massey (126), James Mullins (120), Logan Quertermous (182), Ethan Stevens (145) and Trevor Waldner (132) all finished within the top four after the Class 2, District 1 tournament in Ste. Genevieve Saturday.

Waldner, who enters the state tournament with a 45-2 record, is his weight classes No. 1 seed.

The state wrestling meet is scheduled for Feb. 14-16.
