PORTAGEVILLE -- Sandra Gayle Mudd, 59, died Feb. 26, 2013, at her home.

Born Dec. 2, 1953, in Owensboro, Ky., to Inelle Milton Mobley of Owensboro and the late Edwin Leroy Mobley, she worked at Ohio County School from 1975 to 1986 as a sixth grade elementary teacher. In 1986, she was elected to be the first elementary principal for the Portageville School District. During her tenure at Portageville, she wrote and administrated many grants and was honored by the Missouri Association of Elementary School Principals as the outstanding principal for 2005. In 2010, he retired from the Portageville School District. She was an adjunct professor for William Woods University and a reader for Pearson reading and scoring SAT tests. She had served on the Delta Area Economic Opportunity Corp. board and was a member of the First Baptist Church and the United Methodist Church in Portageville.

On April 18, 1978, in Owensboro, she married Rickey Mudd, and he survives of the home.

Other survivors include: a son, Mark Richard Mudd of Springfield; a daughter, Julie Ann Winborn of Portageville; a brother, Lynn Mobley of Owensboro; and two grandchildren.

Visitation is from 5-9 p.m. today at the First Baptist Church in Portageville, where services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday with the Rev. Barron Willer officiating.

Burial will follow in Peters Cemetery in Mackville, Ky.

DeLisle Funeral Home of Portageville is in charge of arrangements.
