OWENSVILLE -- Evelyn Frances Whitener, 89, died March 4, 2013, at Mercy Hospital in Washington.

Born Feb. 23, 1924, in Nixon, Texas, daughter of the late Emil Cryil and Frances Catherine (Pavlica) Hutyra, she was a member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church and the Ladies Sodality.

On Feb. 1, 1944, in Corpus Christi, Texas, she married Manuel F. Whitener Sr., who preceded her in death.

She was also preceded in death by three brothers, Henry, Raymond and Emit Hutyra; and one sister, Mary Wachel.

Survivors include three sons, Samuel Whitener of Little Rock, Ark., Ronald Whitener of Centralia, Ill., and Manuel Whitener Jr. of Mount Vernon, Ill.; three daughters and two sons-in-law, Jackie and Jerry Kohler of Owensville, Lisa Whitener of Cape Girardeau and Lora and Marshall Duncan of Marthasville; one brother, Roy Hutyra of West Texas; two sisters, Ida Drozd of West Texas and Dorothy Podsednik of Houston, Texas; and 15 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren.

Visitation will begin at 4 p.m. Wednesday at the Gottenstroeter Funeral Home in Owensville.

A funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Owensville with the Rev. Francis Doyle officiating.

Burial will be St. Francis Borgia Cemetery in Washington.
