Born Aug. 24, 1931, in Dexter, to the late Roland T. and Helen Marie Winnegar Baker, he had lived most of his life in Bernie, where he had worked at IXL Handle for many years and attended the Corner Gospel Fellowship Church...

DEXTER -- Donald Lee Baker, 81, died March 7, 2013, at the Crowley Ridge Care Center in Dexter.

Born Aug. 24, 1931, in Dexter, to the late Roland T. and Helen Marie Winnegar Baker, he had lived most of his life in Bernie, where he had worked at IXL Handle for many years and attended the Corner Gospel Fellowship Church.

On Nov. 28, 1953, in Hernando, Miss., he married Ruth Helen Lane who preceded him in death.

He was also preceded in death by three sisters, Charlene Frederick, Shirley Miller and Alowese Massey.

Surviving are: two sons, David Baker and Ronald Baker of Bernie; one daughter, Leslie Sandage of Dexter; four brothers, LaVaughn Baker of Van Buren, Jerry Baker and Gary Baker of Dexter and Wayne Baker of Bernie; two sisters, Barb Watkins of Dexter and Joann Ray of Cape Girardeau; and 11 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

Visitation is scheduled from 5-8 p.m. today at the Watkins and Sons Funeral Home in Dexter where services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday with the Rev. Tim Russell of Dexter officiating.

Burial will follow in the Bernie Cemetery.
