Chaffee wins both in DH, NMCC routs Charleston
CHAFFEE -- The Chaffee Red Devils picked up a pair of wins Tuesday against visiting Advance and Scott County Central.
Against the Hornets, the Red Devils took an early first-inning lead before shutting out Advance 5-0. Chaffee scored a run in the first and another in the third before a two-run rally in the fourth made it 4-0.
One final run in the sixth made up the final.
Outhitting the Hornets 8-3, the Red Devils got a pair of doubles from Jared Walker as part of a three-hit effort. Cody Johnson and Jimmy Golden also provided a double with Johnson contributing two hits total.
Making it a sweep of the day, Chaffee also beat the Braves 9-0.
The Red Devils scored in all but the sixth inning, including a combined five runs in the first two innings.
Scott Central was outhit 8-2 in the contest with Walker once again leading the way with four hits, including another two doubles. Cole Hanna had two hits on the contest while Cody Payne contributed another.
East Prairie 6, Charleston 4
MERIDIAN, Ill., -- The East Prairie Eagles defeated the Charleston Bluejays 6-4 Tuesday in the Scott-Mississippi Conference matchup.
Tyler Gilmore got the win on the mound for East Prairie.
Kelly 10, St. Vincent 7
BENTON -- Aaron Grainger belted a triple to help the Hawks to a home victory.
Jacob McLain added two hits for Kelly (3-2).
Ty Householder notched his first win on the mound. He gave up eight hits and four earned runs over five innings. He struck out three and walked one.
Kevin Mattingly, who had three hits, and Noah Niswonger both doubled for the Indians. Nathan Carroll and Dylan Richardet both added two hits.

NMCC 17, Charleston 0
NEW MADRID -- The New Madrid County Central Lady Eagles softball team took down visiting Charleston 17-0 Tuesday in three innings on the mercy-rule.
After scoring five runs in the first frame, the Lady Eagles broke out for their final 12 runs in the home half of the second inning.
Michaela Townsend pitched all three innings to pick up the win. She allowed two hits in the shutout while striking out three.
Mary Clara Hayes, Emma Karafa and Caroline Fowler had two hits each for NMCC, including a double by Hayes with Chelsea Sylvesterm and Madison Bond contributing a hit each.
Now at 4-0 on the year, the Lady Eagles will host Caruthersville Thursday at 4:30 p.m. before hosting a four-team round robin Saturday starting at 10 a.m.
