MEMPHIS, TN -- With Risco playing Cooter Friday at Auto Zone Park in Memphis, Tenn., Tiger senior Caleb McCord pitched a game he likely won't soon forget.
Going the distance in a 2-0 Risco win, McCord collected a no-hitter while coming only a few batters away from perfection.
McCord was flawless in his seven innings on the mound, holding the Wildcats without a hit or walk in the contest and striking out five. It was only a pair of Tiger errors that kept his effort from going down as a perfect game.
Risco scored its runs in the first and third innings, scoring both on wild pitches.
Hunter Knight led the Tigers at the plate, going 2 for 2 with a walk to reach in all three appearances.
Now at 5-5, Risco will hit the road to play Southland Monday at 4:30 p.m.
Chaffee Round Robin
CHAFFEE -- The Chaffee Red Devils held both their opponents scoreless during their annual Chaffee Round Robin Friday in Chaffee.
The Red Devils (11-3) defeated Meadow Heights 13-0 and Puxico 10-0. Both contests ended after five innings.
Chaffee got going early early against Puxico scoring three runs in the first two innings and then exploding for seven in the third.
The Red Devils had just three hits in the game but took advantage of seven walks and three Indian errors.
Jared Walker hit a double and had two RBIs for Chaffee.
Lane Henson earned the win after three innings. Henson struck out two, allowed one hit and walked none.
Against Meadow Heights, Chaffee's bats broke out for eight hits including two apiece from Walker and Layton Tenkhoff.
Walker went 2 for 4 with a triple and two runs scored. Tenkhoff added a double and two RBIs while going 2 for 3 at the dish.
Storm Estes got the win on the mound pitching three innings. He allowed just one hit, no walks and struck out three.
