SIKESTON -- A malfunction to a boiler briefly delayed classes for students at the Sikeston Junior High School.

Around 7 a.m. Wednesday, the fire division of the Sikeston Department of Public Safety was called to the Junior High School, 510 Lindenwood Ave., after sparks were observed coming from a boiler within the gym area of the building.

School personnel evacuated the building. DPS did conduct an additional check of the building to ensure no one was inside as well and that the building was safe.
