CAPE GIRARDEAU -- Patrick E. Newman, 46, pled guilty to one felony count of bank robbery Wednesday afternoon.

Appearing before United States District Judge Stephen N. Limbaugh, Jr., Newman admitted that on Nov. 30, 2012, he purchased two cell phones from a Walmart store in Pocahontas, Ark.

He then approached another individual in Doniphan and asked that individual to take one of the cell phones, which he had placed in a bag, and gave it to a teller in the People's Community State Bank in Doniphan. The man delivered the phone to the teller as requested.

Upon examining the phone, the teller called the only number listed in the cell phone's memory. This was the number for the second phone purchased by Newman.

Newman admitted that he answered the phone and told the teller his name was "Phillip" and that he had placed bombs in a local school and a local daycare. Newman told the teller that she had four minutes in which to leave $25,000 in unmarked bills near a realty sign at a specific intersection in Doniphan. Newman warned that she should not call the police and then hung up.
