Losing the first game, Sikeston's Jr. Legion claims game two
SIKESTON -- After losing the first game of their doubleheader against visiting Paducah Junior Legion Post 31, the Sikeston American Junior Legion Auxiliary Unit 114 baseball team bounced back with a win in the second during their home opener Wednesday.
Sikeston won the second game 11-2 in five innings behind 14 hits as a team. Audie Hay led Sikeston's offense with a 4 for 4 performance, an RBI and two runs scored. Gage Silman added a double, triple and three RBIs while Drew Pikey had two hits, two RBIs and two runs scored.
Cody Rogers got the win on the mound after throwing four innings and allowing no hits. Sabastian Matos allowed both runs in the fifth.
Sikeston (6-2) jumped out to an 8-0 lead after just two innings scoring three in the first inning and five more in the second.
During the first game, Sikeston fell 8-3.
Silman pitched 4 1/3 innings allowing 10 hits and two walks while striking out two.
Colton Hampton was just a home run shy of the cycle at the plate adding an RBI as well while Garrison Keene had two hits including a double.
Auxiliary Unit 114 will host Leopold on Friday at 6 p.m. at VFW Memorial Stadium for their next game.
