ORAN -- After wrapping up a stellar sophomore campaign at Jefferson College this past spring former Oran standout Amanda Williams has decided to continue her softball career this fall at Missouri Baptist University.
Williams earned a scholarship to the four-year university thanks to impressive numbers both on the field and in the classroom at Jefferson College, who compete in Region XVI of the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA).
She worked her way onto the Dean's List in the fall before becoming a key cog in the Lady Vikings' 48-8 campaign that included a 14-2 mark in the Midwest Community College Athletic Conference (MCCAC).
Besides hitting for a .444 average, Williams drove in 74 runs to set a new school record while hitting a team-high 10 home runs. She collected 71 hits and 22 walks on her way to a .519 on-base-percentage and .688 slugging-percentage. As the catcher, her main position, Williams had a .997 fielding-percentage.
Williams' 74 RBI were the 13th best in the nation while her batting average was 36th. She ranked in the top 100 players in the NJCAA in seven other categories.
Some of the many awards she collected in her swan song with the Lady Vikings included making the NJCAA XVI Division I All-Region Team as well as being selected to the National Fastpitch Coaches Association NJCAA Division I All-American team.
She earned 'Who's Who in American Junior Colleges' honors and as well as making the All-Region and MCCAC Academic All-Conference team.
This fall she'll join a Spartan squad that finished the 2013 season with a 21-13 record in the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics and 10-8 in the America Midwest Conference.
