SIKESTON -- Local re-enactors are back home after participating in the 150th Gettysburg Re-enactment.

Led by Rick Justice of Sikeston, local Civil War re-enactors usually fight in Confederate gray as the 10th Tennessee Cavalry but occasionally appear as the 7th Illinois Cavalry when Union re-enactors are needed.

The unit kept their gray jackets but lost their mounts for the Gettysburg event, however.

"We actually went as infantry this time and represented three Tennessee regiments known as Archer's Brigade," Justice said. "When our organization was invited to go as an organization, we asked to represent them since we're Army of Tennessee. There were over 200 of the Army of Tennessee that were there."

Justice said his 14-man unit participated in seven out of the eight battles held during the event.

"The first one was on July 4 and the last one was Sunday afternoon," Justice said. "They were phenomenal."
