More good than bad

I'm looking at the editorial page on the July 3 paper. The cartoon, I resent. These things are definitely in our society. But if they were predominant, we wouldn't be celebrating the Fourth of July. They are not predominant.

Into our pockets

I just read U.S. Representative Jason Smith's column in the July 2 Standard Democrat. I guess my question for Jason Smith is, he opposes amnesty to any and all forms of illegals. He also says Congress must secure our borders. Well Jason, who is going to pay to secure our borders? It's gonna cost an enormous amount of money to build a fence along the Mexican border. And then, what about across the Canadian border? Who's gonna pay for this? You are against the federal debt. You're against increased deficits. You want to lower taxes, but you have no solution to pay for anything. If the United States is going to invest in something as stupid as a big fence, why don't we build and take care of our infrastructure? Our roads and bridges desperately need additional attention. That would be money much better spent. But, you being a Republican, you are gonna speak the company line and no way to pay for it. Just the typical more same old stuff.

Ka-boom

It's another Fourth of July, and in Sikeston, all the noise, all this music coming from these cars, all these firecrackers. You are not supposed to even be allowed to shoot a firecracker in the city of Sikeston. So what do you do - you call the police. All you get is the run around. I am sick of it. You would think by now that everybody would know there is an ordinance against loud music from vehicles. You would think they would know there is an ordinance against firecrackers in city limits. We sure need a public safety department that enforces these ordinances. Who else thinks like this?

Loud music - you're right. Firecrackers? It's one day and a special day. Give the kids a break!
