SIKESTON -- Sikeston City Council members would like to see some members added to the Sikeston Area Humane Society Board of Directors.

Geri Way, treasurer, said during the Council's regular monthly meeting Monday that she and Dan Strebler, president, have been on the local humane society's board of directors for five years and are the only remaining active members.

"We do need some assistance as far as fundraising," Way said. "The donations: they dropped down."

The local Humane Society has a money problem and is "running in the red," she said. "I'm always running in the red."

"We have a major pet population problem," said Dr. Stephen Williams, veterinarian and owner of The Animal Health Center in Sikeston.
