SIKESTON -- Local retailers and their staff have planned for the annual back-to-school sales tax holiday event, which, for some, is the biggest sales weekend of the year.

The three-day holiday begins at 12:01 a.m. Friday and runs through Sunday. Certain back-to-school purchases, such as clothing, shoes, school supplies, computers and other items are exempt from state sales tax during the period.

The sales tax holiday weekend is one of the peak shopping periods in the summer.

For VF Factory Outlet at Sikeston Outlet Stores, the sales tax holiday weekend is the No. 1 in sales for the entire year, according to store manager Cindy Armstrong.
