Lois should know lanes

Hey Mike, This is "Fed-up Ed." I was just going down North Main, and a vehicle with a state license plate pulled out in front of me and used the turn lane as a merge lane. I can't believe someone that should know the laws of the state of Missouri does not know that you cannot use a turn lane as a merge lane. I got frowned upon when I shook my index finger at her. But, she should know the laws. Have a nice day.

Poor business ethics

The welfare system is very understandable when it comes to giving aid to those who have little or no income. There's other factors that come into the equation such as family size, crisis situations, unemployment, homelessness, etc. Therefore, I can come to an agreement that it can be used when needed. The welfare system was probably most scrutinized when reform came out during the Clinton era. Aside from Congress giving states control over the welfare system, welfare was also placed under a microscope for abuses in the system. Yes, welfare is an abused system and where there's a system, there's always a loophole. One thing that draws the line with me as a tax-paying citizen, is when local businesses actually start advertising their business that they accept Electronic Benefit Transfer (EBT). For me, this is a slap in the face. I really despise driving down Main Street and seeing businesses actually advertising 'EBT accepted' on their outside sign. It gets even more ridiculous when convenience and liquor stores do the same and place a small bowl of fresh fruit to make it look legit. Do they think we are that stupid? Do businesses really have to stoop that low? It's a shame and where has hometown pride gone these days? It's almost as if they are promoting welfare through their business. This is poor business ethics and does nothing to inspire people to become less dependent on the taxpayers' dime. Encourage work, progress and education. At least Pizza Hut back in the '80s promoted the "Book It" program getting school children to read books.
