SIKESTON -- The Sikeston/Bootheel Area United Way officially kicked off its fundraising campaign with the largest goal in the local organization's history during a luncheon today in Sikeston.

The 2013-2014 campaign goal is set at $110,000. Last year's campaign exceeded the goal by $6,000, which meant $111,000 was pledged or donated.

"I just want to thank the community and surrounding area for their support in past campaigns," said Greg Comer, chair of this year's campaign. "Even with the lows of the economy, we have prospered and gone above our expectations. We exceeded our goal last year, and we hope to do do it again this year."
