GRANDVIEW -- As he was taking in his bus ride home through the hills of Jefferson County late Friday night, East Prairie head coach Chad Jamerson said nobody could do anything to wipe the smile off of his face.

The reason for his happiness? The East Prairie football team is finally off it's 19-game losing skid.

The Eagles pummeled Grandview 43-8 for their first win since the 2011 season. It was in fact Grandview who East Prairie beat before their 19-game losing streak began.

"We just got the ball rolling," Jamerson said. "We played great defensively and the kids were in the right place. We ended up playing a heck of a ball game on both sides of the ball."

Freshman Deverence Jones may have given the Eagles a sign of what was to come right from the start when he returned the opening kickoff 80 yards immediately giving East Prairie an early lead.

"That freshman continues to play like a senior," Jamerson said about Jones.

The Eagles racked up 307 rushing yards and scored three rushing touchdowns. Blayn Goodding led the Eagles' rushing attack with an 80-yard scoring run. Adrian Soto and Brad Beck also ran in for scores.

Sophomore quarterback Brett Ellis threw for 148 yards and two touchdowns on 5 of 6 passing. Damion Tipler and Jones each had a receiving touchdown.

East Prairie's defense was also on point. They had five takeaways -- all of which were interceptions. Joey Abrego had two picks while Beck, Goodding and Jones each had one interception between them.

East Prairie will be on the road again next Friday when they take on the Scott City Rams.

Chaffee 31, St. Pius X 14

FESTUS -- Chaffee head coach Charlie Vickery celebrated a coaching milestone last week winning his 200th career game. He added to his personal winning column Friday.

Chaffee defeated St. Pius X 31-14 on the road behind three total touchdowns from quarterback Peyton Montgomery and 444 total offensive yards as a team.

Vickery was the longtime head coach of the Sikeston Bulldogs from 1978 to 2003 where he won 156 games. Before his time at Sikeston, Vickery was the head coach at Chaffee and won 16 games. He took over the Chaffee football program again in 2005.

Peyton Montgomery, who went 6 of 11 passing for 72 yards, put the Red Devils ahead with a 1-yard touchdown run with 3:45 left in the first quarter. His brother, Charlie Montgomery, added to their lead in the second quarter with a 6-yard scoring run.

The Red Devils ended the first half up 18-0 following a 16-yard touchdown pass to Jimmy Golden giving Peyton Montgomery his one and only passing score on the night.

Chaffee finished the night with 372 rushing yards and four rushing touchdowns -- two by Charlie Montgomery.
