SIKESTON -- A Sikeston native will serve as the city's next Public Works director.
The hiring of Jay Lancaster as Sikeston's director of Public Works director was announced Wednesday by city officials. His first day of work will be Nov. 25.
The Department of Public Works includes the Street Division, Vehicle Maintenance Division, Parks Division, Code Enforcement Division and Animal Control Division.
As the director, Lancaster will supervised 22 full-time employees. His job responsibilities include overseeing construction projects for the city, being responsible for preventive and corrective maintenance of city-owned property, providing support services to the city manager and preparing the capital improvement budget.
Employed by the Missouri Department of Transportation since 2000, Lancaster is currently overseeing the Planning Department for the Southeast District of MoDOT. During his career he also administered several federal-aid projects with numerous county and city governments and spent time as a design engineer.
