SIKESTON -- A Dexter man faces multiple felony charges following a high-speed pursuit with law enforcement over the weekend.

Kyle W. Brashear, 21, is charged with felony distributing, delivering, manufacturing producing or attempt to possess a controlled substance and felony charge of resisting arrest/detention/stop by fleeing and creating a substantial risk of serious injury/death to any person.

About 12:30 p.m. Sunday Sikeston Department of Public Safety was dispatched to Sikeston Walmart in reference to a shoplifting there, according to Capt. Jim McMillen, public information officer for Sikeston DPS. When the officer arrived, an employee said a subject exited the store with stolen merchandise and got into a vehicle.

The officer was able to stop this vehicle on Highway 61, and as he was approaching, the vehicle sped away. The vehicle went west on Highway 60, and that's when the officer made contact with Missouri State Highway Patrol and New Madrid County Sheriff's Department for assistance.

They traveled south on FF Highway and that vehicle continued south to Highway HH. The Patrol had set stop sticks at HH and 61 and deflated the tires on suspect's vehicle.

Several times the suspect's vehicle attempted to strike the pursing officer and the vehicle went north on 61 and west toward Matthews. The vehicle stopped on Steele Street in Matthews, and the driver exited. The officers pursued him on foot and he ran into a residence on Sarah Drive. Officers took the driver of the vehicle, Brashear, into custody.

Two other suspects who were located in vehicle. Names of the two individuals are being withheld, pending the filing of formal charges.

Officers recovered a small-caliber handgun, a large bag with what is believed to be marijuana, several components commonly used to make methamphetamine. In addition, digital scales and several plastic baggies were found.

At press time, Brashear remained in jail on $50,000 bond.
