SIKESTON -- Looking to capitalize on some of the best-captured scenes of Sikeston, the city's Convention and Visitors Bureau is hosting a photo contest through 2014.
"We're hoping to get a huge turnout," said Rhonda Council, who is an administrative assistant for the CVB. "We're excited and looking forward to seeing all the photos people submit."
The contest is open to the public and entrants must be 18 years or older.
Entrants do not have to be residents of Sikeston; they just have to submit photos taken in Sikeston, noted Kathy Medley, who is also an administrative assistant for the CVB.
"Grab those cameras and capture your best images that represent Sikeston and the surrounding areas," Medley said.
Since the contest began Oct. 10, the Bureau has received a few entries, Medley said.
"Certainly, we would like to have more," Medley said.
The contest includes five categories: everyday life in Sikeston and surrounding area (people-pictures of everyday life); special events, such as the Rodeo, Cotton Carnival, festivals, community events, etc.; family activities (picnics, reunions, sporting activities, etc.); outdoor recreation (biking, hiking, fishing, parks, etc.); and landscapes (city and rural, neighborhoods, historic sites, etc.)
Submissions must be digital images only and submitted through an online form on the CVB's website: www.visitsikeston.com.
