SIKESTON -- The nation's newest aircraft carrier, the USS Gerald R. Ford, will lead the U.S. Navy's next generation of supercarriers.

And leading the invocation during the ship christening's opening ceremony Nov. 9 at Huntington Ingalls Newport News Shipbuilding in Newport News, Va., was Sikeston native Capt. Jerome Hinson.

"Gerald Ford was one of his heroes and apparently he was asked by the Ford family to do the invocation," said Janet Hinson of Morehouse, Capt. Hinson's mother.
