BROSELEY -- Just fives days after picking up a win on New Madrid County Central's home court, the Dexter Lady Bearcats took down the Lady Eagles once again Monday to advance in the Lady Royals Holiday Classic at Twin Rivers High School.
Playing each other in the quarterfinals, Dexter got a game-high 28 points from senior Hannah Noe as they rolled to an 83-33 win that propels the two-time defending champions back to the semifinals.
"I thought New Madrid played even harder today," Lady Bearcats' head coach Chad Allen said, comparing Monday to Thursday's 96-21 win. "Coach (David) Crockett definitely does a good job with them and gets them playing hard.
"I didn't think we shot the ball as well today as we did at their place, but I thought the girls did a good defensively and created a lot of turnovers and we got a lot of points off turnovers."
Combining for 17 points in the first quarter, Noe and fellow senior Paige Patterson fueled Dexter's hot start that put them ahead 31-11 entering the second quarter.
Noe pitched in another 10 points in the second period, giving her 19 points in the half, as the Lady Bearcats took a 53-15 edge into the break.
Outscoring the Lady Eagles 21-12 in the third quarter, Dexter built a 47-point lead going into the fourth to ensure a turbo-clocked final period.
While losing by 50 points may not be something to strive for, it's a considerable improvement over last week's 75-point loss to the Lady Bearcats, who are currently ranked second in Class 4 throughout the state.
"It was a much better effort tonight as opposed to Thursday night," Crockett said. "That was the key coming in. I told the girls no matter what we're going to battle four quarters and for the most part we did. We had a couple little lulls there where we didn't, but you play a team like that who makes run after run and doesn't miss many shots.
"When they do you have to secure the boards. Once again we're so small the guards have to do a better job on the boards for us, but we don't play a Dexter every single day."
NMCC (5-3) was led by Rashaunda Summers, who had eight points on the contest while Amirah Ruff and Keisha Rainer had six points each.
For Dexter, Noe scored all of her 28 points in the first three quarters. She had two of her team's four 3-pointers on the game and shot a perfect 4 of 4 from the free throw line.
"She's definitely developing into one of the best point guards we've had," Allen said of Noe. "She sees the floor well. She takes control, calls out plays and gets in the right spots. She just does a lot of good things for us. She just keeps on getting better."
Patterson was second on the team with 18 points, including 12 in the first half. Alison Jarrell finished with 14 points, included a pair of 3-pointers, with Erika Cobb scoring 10 points to become the fourth Lady Bearcat in double-digits.
Now at 8-0 on the season, Dexter will face tournament host Twin Rivers in the semifinals on Friday at 2 p.m. Twin Rivers took down Naylor 59-52 in overtime in their quarterfinal matchup Monday.
NMCC moves into the fifth-place bracket and will play Naylor Friday at 5 p.m.
