POPLAR BLUFF -- The Sikeston 8th grade boys basketball team improved to 8-0 on the season with a 65-34 road win over Poplar Bluff on Wednesday.
Sikeston led 29-10 after one quarter of play and were never challenged.
The Bulldogs led 42-21 at the half and 54-29 entering the fourth quarter.
Fred Thatch led all scorers with 17 points, 13 of which came in the first quarter. Don Larry and Keyth Blissett each scored nine and Austin Branch followed up with eight.
Eleven of the 12 players on the roster scored for the Bulldogs.
"We played very well offensively," Sikeston coach Derek James said. "I can't complain at all about our offense. I think our defense and our press were not as strong today and there are some things that we have to get cleaned up. But overall I was proud of the guys. We had great attitudes. Everybody contributed and I always love to see that."
Sikeston's 8th graders will play at Cape Central today at 5 p.m.

Balanced scoring led the Sikeston freshman basketball team past Poplar Bluff 46-38.
Phayzun Fobbs led the Bulldogs with 10 points. Sam Cox added nine while Jaden Lane, Deshawn Aldridge and Chris Baker all added six. Jason Moore chipped in five.
Sikeston (3-0) will be on the road tonight at Cape Central.
