Food for thought

I was just watching the news where they are changing the vending machines at the schools to become healthy for the children, fruits and vegetables, no sodas, candy bars and sugary snacks. If children are supposed to be getting healthy by only eating healthy food, why is it that EBT card or food stamp cards, they can go buy sodas and Twinkies and Ding Dongs and potato chips, candy bars? Those should only be used for meat, vegetables, dairy, fruits, or the basic food groups, the healthy foods, not for pizzas or at fast-food places. That's just food for thought.

Overseas jobs

Did you know that the biggest retail store in Sikeston sends their jobs overseas when people here in the United States need jobs? Now, does that make any sense at all?

White done right

My name is Jenny Dupont. I am a former resident of Sikeston. I have adopted a beautiful Golden Retriever a couple years back. I've noticed that since Trace White has taken over the shelter, it is a much nicer, cleaner shelter than it was a couple of years ago when I was there. I do go in there about once a month when I come down to Sikeston and I think he has done an excellent job. I'm so happy that we finally have a no-kill shelter, and I think that they should keep Trace. He has done an excellent job.

I would like to praise the director of the Sikeston Area Humane Society for cleaning up the place. It smells better, it looks cleaner. I've heard several people say he has done a great job. I'm sorry to see this information on the front page of the newspaper because I really feel like he has done a good job down there.

Use it or lose it

I wonder how people are going to live in this area these days. Sikeston used to be such a nice clean area. There is a little subdivision north of town. It used to be a nice looking little yellow house up there. I went by there the other day, and that thing looks like a junkyard. I don't understand what's wrong with people. If they are not using the junk then get rid of it.
