SIKESTON -- The Sikeston Standard Democrat is changing its print schedule from six days per week to five, starting next week, but readers will continue to receive the overall news and sports coverage they have grown accustomed to in print over the years.

"We will no longer print a Tuesday paper, but we are committed to bringing our readers all the news they received before, just in one fewer print day per week," said Don Culbertson, chief operations officer for the Standard Democrat. "We will continue our breaking news coverage online, so readers can continue to trust us with providing them comprehensive and timely news reports."

The change reflects advertisers' preferences for Wednesday and weekend distribution. In addition it will save considerable production and distribution costs as the newspaper seeks to strengthen its ability to provide the best news coverage possible in print and online, he explained.

"Our print subscribers will still have free access to our website, and our newsroom will continue to update with breaking news and sports, along with features and other stories, throughout the day and evening. And our readers will still receive all the stories in the print edition five days a week," Culbertson added.

The Standard Democrat will now publish a print edition on Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday along with the Weekender edition which is delivered on Saturdays.

To fulfill the newspaper's commitment to its subscribers, all subscriptions will be extended for one month to provide customers with the full benefit of what they paid for, he said.
