PADUCAH, Ky. -- The Southeast Missouri Area is under a winter storm warning from 9 a.m. until Wednesday morning.
According to the National Weather Service, a strong storm system over the southern Rockies will move rapidly northeast toward the region today. As the system approaches, a mix of wintry precipitation will spread northeast across the area today and into tonight.
Moderate to heavy snow is possible for the Ozark Foothills region, northeast toward Perryville and Jackson. Amounts of 3-5 inches of snow is expected. The snow will be mixed with sleet along and south of a line from Poplar Bluff to Cape Girardeau where 1-3 inches of snow and sleet are forecast.
Across extreme southeast Missouri, including New Madrid and Charleston, a mix of sleet and freezing rain will occur with up to one quarter inch of ice possible with some sleet accumulation.
Significant travel impacts are probable where icing occurs and it could have an impact on trees and power lines.
