CHARLESTON -- It's been a hard winter on Mississippi County's roads.

Carlin Bennett, presiding commissioner, said during the regular County Commission meeting Thursday that he was contacted by an East Prairie school official about poor road conditions identified by bus drivers on their routes.

"We understand and know we have to address these problems," Bennett said. "We will get them all fixed eventually."

Bennett said the roads have been frozen for several months and are now too "spongey" to work on without causing additional damage.

"There's not much we can do," he said.
