Class 2, District 3: Chaffee, Oran both advance to semifinals

CHAFFEE (SMNS) -- Charlie Montgomery scored a game-high 25 points to lead the second-seeded host Red Devils to victory over No. 7 Viburnum.

Jimmy Golden added 14 points and Trevor Morehead tossed in 10 points for Chaffee (17-9).

Brandon Hubbs totaled 12 points to lead Viburnum, which ended its season with a record of 3-20.

Chaffee will play No. 3 Advance, 89-33 winners over Meadow Heights, tonight at 7:30 p.m.

Hunter Schlosser scored a game-high 15 points to lead the top-seeded Eagles to victory over the eighth-seeded Vikings.

Jacob Priggel netted 11 points and Thomas Trankler tossed in 10 points for Oran (20-7). The Eagles will face fourth-seeded Ellington in Tuesday's first semifinal at 6 p.m. The Whippets avoided a scare from fifth-seeded Bismarck in a 78-71 overtime win.

Zach Tucker led the Vikings with 13 points and Logan Lucas chipped in 10 points as Valley (Caledonia) ended its season with a record of 1-22.

Jordan Pruitt tallied a game-high 15 points as fourth-seeded host Chaffee defeated fifth-seeded Valley of Caledonia 52-38 in the first round of the Class 2 District 3 girls tournament on Saturday.

Julia Sutterfield netted 13 points and Lindsay Harrell added 11 points for Chaffee (8-13), which will face conference nemesis and top-seeded Oran in a semifinal tomorrow at 6 p.m.

Callee Payne and Jamielyn Hutchings bucketed 10 points apiece for Valley, which closed its season with a record of 5-13.
