BLOOMFIELD, Mo. - The top-seeded Bernie Mules moved one step closer to repeating as Class 2, District 1, champs with an 84-35 district quarterfinal win against Cooter Monday.
The Mules hit five of its eight 3-pointers in the first half.
Bernie built a 51-20 lead by halftime and padded its advantage to 74-31 by the start of the fourth quarter.
Bernie senior guards B.J. Jennings and Jake Wagner both drained three treys. Jennings tallied a team-high 21 points and Wagner scored 13 points.
Bernie senior forwards Joey Walker and Bubby Schwent also finished in double digits. Schwent tallied 10 of his 11 points in the first half. Joey Walker calculated six of his 10 points before halftime.
Cooter six-foot-four sophomore forward Kyler Barnes and five-foot-eight junior guard Tyler McLevain led Cooter with 10 points a piece.
Cooter upset No. 8 seeded Campbell by two points Saturday to advance to Monday's quarterfinal.
Bernie will play its district semifinal against fifth-seeded Portageville Wednesday at 6 p.m. at Bloomfield.

The No. 5 seeded Portageville Bulldogs beat the No. 4 seeded Holcomb Hornets 62-54 to account for the only quarterfinal upset at the Class 2, District 1, boys basketball tournament Monday.
Portageville trailed 45-42 at the start of the fourth quarter. The contest was tied 49-49 with four minutes remaining. The Bulldogs scored the next nine points to move ahead 58-49 with less than two minutes remaining and led by at least four the rest of the way.
Derrick Priggle scored 10 of his team-high 14 points for Portageville in the first half. A.V. Banks scored 10 of his 13 points in the second half and Carlos McGee tallied nine of his 11 points after halftime.
The Bulldogs shot just 12 of 21 from the free throw line but made nine free throws in the fourth quarter.
Ryan Reeves hit a 2-pointer in ever quarter. He paced Holcomb with 25 points.
Chance Davis tallied all 16 of his points before the start of the fourth quarter.
Portageville will play top-seeded Bernie Wednesday at 6 p.m. in a district semifinal.

The No. 2 seeded Hayti Indians beat the host No. 7 seeded Bloomfield Wildcats 58-45 in its Class 2, District 1, quarterfinal Monday.
Hayti and Bloomfield were tied 4-4 after six minutes of play in the opening quarter. Hayti doubled Bloomfield on the scoreboard at 24-12 with less than two minutes left in the first half.
Bloomfield trailed by 13 points at halftime and 10 points at the start of the fourth quarter.
Hayti increased its lead to 48-31 in the fourth period. A 7-0 Bloomfield run cut the deficit to 48-38 with three minutes remaining in regulation.
Bloomfield sophomore center Noah Vandiver tallied a team-high 19 points before he fouled out with 2:57 remaining.
Hayti followed with an 8-0 run after Vandiver fouled out to take its largest lead of the game at 56-38 with 1:22 remaining.
Six-foot-seven senior center Frankie Burden Jr. led Hayti in scoring with 14 points. Brandon Burden added 12 points and Kenyetta Brooks recorded 11.

The No. 3 seeded South Pemiscot Bulldogs outscored the Senath-Hornersville Lions by 10 points in the first quarter in a 70-62 victory in its Class 2, District 1, quarterfinal Monday.
After falling behind by double digits Senath-Hornersville cut the deficit as close as 32-27 with 6:14 left in the third quarter.
South Pemiscot followed with 13 unanswered points to take its largest lead of the game at 45-27 with two minutes remaining in the third quarter.
Glen Jackson and Anton Wilbourn paced South Pemiscot with 13 points a piece. Contrell Johnson added 12 points and Anthony Primer scored 11.
Kyle Moore led Senath-Hornersville with 28 points. Moore was 10 of 11 from the charity stripe. He hit two of his team's four treys.
Austin Autry scored 14 points for the Lions.
South Pemiscot will play Hayti Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. in its district semifinal at Bloomfield.
