SIKESTON -- Four local farmers were honored Thursday for their accumulative 220-year association with the Robert S. Matthews family.

"The folks being honored here today have shown an incredible patience with their landlords," Scott Matthews told the group gathered for the 17th annual Robert S. Matthews farm meeting Thursday in Sikeston.

Matthews said the meeting was a special day and marked a rare moment for him and both past and present members of his family.

"During that 220 years, there's never been a single contractual word written between the parties. There's never been a single cross word ever exchanged. There's never been a single instance of a dispute over crop share, expenses or strategic farm goals," Matthews said.
