The New Madrid County R-1 Announces a Change in the Sports Practices for the Spring of 2014
In a new release sent out by the New Madrid County Central School District, "School districts in the State of Missouri have been contacted by the Missouri State High School Athletics Association (MSHSAA). According to the Associate Executive Director, Harvey Richards, "MSHSAA has indicated there will be no waiver for the 14-day conditioning rule. This is a safety issue, and all schools must adhere to this rule. Schools will have to make adjustments in their practice schedules and/or adjust your regular season start date."
Due to the unusual weather conditions throughout the New Madrid County R-1 District, the decision to practice Spring sports on Wednesdays and Sundays has been made. The District works diligently to not require students to practice after 5:00 P.M. on Wednesdays and no practice on Sundays. However, due to the unusual conditions, the practices will have to take place on those days in order to have the 14-day conditioning rule in place. Once the 14-day conditioning rule is met, we will proceed with the regular practice schedule.
This change will allow the District to play the games as scheduled.
As for as the Portageville School District, "This same ruling applies to us as well," said Michael Allred, superintendent of schools. "However, we already practice on Wednesdays and stop early enough to allow folks to go to Wednesday night church. I really do not want to go to a Sunday practice, and will try to keep it that way."
If at the end of the 14th day of practice and there is a game scheduled on that day, that game will have to be pushed up and rescheduled if possible.
