BENTON - A Sikeston man was arraigned Tuesday on stealing charges in connection with a series of thefts from vehicles.

Chadwick Hopgood, 18, was arraigned on the Class C felony of stealing of a firearm and the Class A misdemeanor of stealing before Judge Scott T. Horman.

Hopgood was arrested following an investigation into reports of items stolen from vehicles in Morley, Organ and Chaffee early Sunday. Items taken included a firearm, checkbook and money.

According to Scott County Sheriff Rick Walter, an investigation by Deputy Matt Scroggins led him to Hopgood, who was in possession of some of the stolen items in Benton. Also Hopgood was observed on camera cashing in stolen lottery tickets at a convenience store.

During an interview Hopgood confessed to the thefts to Scroggins, Walter said in a news release.

Bond was set by the court at $7,500 cash or surety.

Walter asked that anyone who has information regarding thefts or any crime contact the Scott County Sheriff's Office at 545-3525, or leave a message on the crime tip line at 1-866-210-4322.
