SIKESTON -- Seventeen people are in custody following operation "Spring Fling," a warrant roundup primarily aimed at those dealing with illegal drugs in Sikeston.

Approximately 32 persons were recently indicted mostly for drug offenses and a few for property crimes and crimes against people, according to Capt. Jim McMillen, public information officer for Sikeston Department of Public Safety. Early Wednesday, Sikeston DPS along with numerous other agencies began seeking the wanted subjects and by 10 a.m. had 17 individuals in custody.

"Although not all of the wanted subjects were located, we feel this event was a success," McMillen said in a news release. "No one was hurt and we arrested several people with warrants for dealing in drugs. It is important we take an aggressive stance on drugs in our community because of all the harm and violence associated with it."
