BENTON -- A decision on establishing a county nuisance ordinance is not something the Scott County Commission is going to rush.

Jamie Burger, Scott County's presiding commissioner, said during Tuesday's regular County Commission meeting that they received a copy of Mississippi County's nuisance ordinance Wednesday.

"We didn't meet Thursday, so we are going to need a little time to read it and dissect it," Burger said.

Bob Laseter, who along with two other county residents during the April 29 County Commission meeting asked commissioners to adopt a nuisance ordinance, repeated his request Tuesday.

Dennis Ziegenhorn, county commissioner, said he is still learning about how the ordinance addresses properties with maintenance issues that present a health hazard or public nuisance and wants to make sure it doesn't create a problem for businesses in the county.
