SIKESTON - A decorated Air Force veteran, who has flown 100 combat mission, will be the guest speaker at Sikeston's Memorial Day Service at 10:30 a.m. Monday in Veteran's Park.

George E. Day Jr., a retired lieutenant colonel with the U.S. Air Force, will address those attending the service, which is open to the public. Also participating will be veterans from the American Legion and the Veterans of Foreign Wars.

Harold Myrick will perform the national anthem and "God Bless America." The Rev. Dan Cook with the First Christian Church will offer the prayer of remembrance and Lt. Col. Paul Boyd with the Missouri National Guard will present the wreath.

A presentation will be made by 148th District Rep. Holly Rehder. Concluding the ceremony will be a 21-gun salute by members of the Sikeston National Guard with Michael Neeley, a student at Sikeston High School, performing "Taps."

According to Blair Moran, who organizes the annual Sikeston Memorial Day Service, Day "learned the meaning of service and sacrifice at a very young age."
