Back in 1998 Robert Mohr and Rodney Lindley were bringing a Norfork Southern freight train through Lafayette, Indiana. Lindley, the engineer spotted what looked like a yellow haired puppy lying on the tracks about 150 yards ahead. They sat down on the horn and what popped up nearly caused them to go into shock. It was a yellow haired 19 month old toddler sitting on the tracks. Her mother was in the front yard and thought her girl had gone inside but she went in the front door and out the back door and had crawled up on the tracks. Mohr ran out the side door and down the catwalk alongside the engine and Lindley sat down on the brakes. But it is really hard to get a 6200 ton 96 car freight train to stop. It finally slowed to 10 miles an hour. Mohr planned to reach out and grab that baby girl with his hand so he held on to the engine guard rail with one hand and reach out in front of that engine as far as he could with the other. Just before he reached for her she crawled off the rail but not out of danger so he immediately took his foot and kicked her. She rolled down the hill and landed sitting up. She chipped a tooth and cut her head which needed a few stitches but other than that she was fine.
Which is worse, being kicked down the hill or being hit by a 6200 ton train. Remember this about the trials you face in life. God may be putting you through a trial in order to prevent something far worse from happening. Romans 8:39 reminds us that nothing "shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord." Does God love you? Yes, even when you're rolling down the hill. God really does love you and so does First Baptist Church.
