According to a news release from the Mississippi County Sheriff's Department on Monday afternoon, Mississippi County Deputy Cory Hutcheson developed information that a third person was present at the time of Davis' death and had concealed a shotgun used by Brent Naile in the murder.
Based on that information, Mississippi County deputies arrested Brent Naile's father, Danny Naile, at his Bertrand residence.
During a subsequent search of that residence, Hutcheson recovered a 12-gauge shotgun suspected to have been used by Brent Naile to shoot Davis. The shotgun will be submitted to the Missouri State Highway Patrol's Crime Lab for a forensic examination of blood and other DNA found on the weapon.
Following Danny Naile's arrest, Hutcheson and Mississippi County Sheriff Keith Moore conducted additional interviews with Faye Myers and Brent Naile along with other sources.
According to Hutcheson's report, Naile and Myers transported Davis to a remote area of the county for the purpose of assaulting him, and during that attack, Davis sustained a cut to his neck. Naile and Myers then lured Davis back into the vehicle by a promise to seek medical attention; but instead, they drove the back roads until the car ran out of gas.
"Brent Naile called his father, Danny Naile, who then delivered a few gallons of gas to his stranded son. While Danny Naile was there, Brent Naile removed a shotgun from his dad's truck, used it to shoot Derell Davis multiple times, and then returned the firearm to his dad's truck," according to the news release from the Sheriff's Department.
"Danny Naile and Faye Myers then allegedly watched as Brent Naile drug Davis' body down the levee to the water's edge. Brent then allegedly sliced open the man's abdomen and rolled the body into the water," Hutcheson reported.
Danny Naile is accused of then concealing the murder weapon and failing to report the homicide, the officer said.
According to the Sheriff, Danny Naile's arrest is the latest development is the culmination of a lengthy investigation by the Sheriff's Department, Mississippi County Coroner Terry Parker and the Missouri State Highway Patrol's Division of Drug and Crime Control.
"My department has worked tirelessly on this investigation over the past few days," said Moore. "The truth came out slowly, but it did come out."
