BENTON -- A new location and format for open-class entries are among the changes planned for this year's Benton Neighbor Day exhibits.

Set for Aug. 29 and 30 at the Benton City Park, the annual Neighbor Days have for years included the tradition of various exhibits by local 4-H members and community residents.

While the more than 20 classes of local 4-H member exhibits will continue as usual, this year organizers have decided to feature a single exhibit for open-class entries.

"We used to have 16 different categories (in the open-class), and we'd receive a few entries in each one and had to get special judges for each of those, the committee decided to concentrate on one category this year," said exhibit committee member Christy LeGrand. "So this year we'll have to get one to three judges and not 16."

The new format means each year a single exhibit category will be featured. For example, this year, photography entries only will be accepted.

LeGrand said the committee hopes to receive many entries to create a nice display with several dozens of photos depicting both the city of Benton and Scott County. She also noted Larry Braun, a local award-winning photographer, is a new exhibit committee member this year.
