It's called empathy

This is in response to "Food for thought," about people saying something about feeding illegal immigrants. That's called empathy and that's a good thing.

No time to work

If these people in Ferguson, Mo., were working and not on welfare and food stamps, they wouldn't be out there demonstrating would they?

Remark on remarks

I'd like to speakout about this article in the paper about "Board member remarks on new year." I've been around Sikeston a long time now and I'm going to ask all these questions. I want somebody to answer me. Who does this guy think he is? Let me read you just a little bit of this. "This is a beginning of a new year. We should be excited for the opportunities that can be ours this year. We should turn a blind eye to the minority that are just mad at everything." Who does he think the minority is? Who in our community is just mad at everything? Who's mad? "They are doing nothing to improve student achievement. They are divisive and mean spirited. They have destroyed employee morale." Who is this "they" that he is talking about? "..among what I believe are a very dedicated group of teachers and administrators." If the morale of the teachers is destroyed, it is the school board that works for us and the kids and the teachers. How can the teachers morale be destroyed? Administration, is that not the board? "We are lucky to have them." Sure we are. They are good teachers, every one of them. "But here's the problem..." This man has a problem. He really does have a problem. "When the morale of any organization is down, the overall direction of the organization doesn't advance properly." Well, hell that's stuff that first graders understand. "I have the utmost confidence in in Superintendent Tom Williams." Hello, building up the school board again. Seems like to me the man has a problem with the citizens that have been holding their own with the school board. Now this is the first time I've ever called SpeakOut, but I will call again if this guy thinks I'm one of the minorities he's talking about. He ain't been out of Sikeston according to this article. No wonder he's in the sad shape he's in.
