The Portageville Bulldogs took their 2-1 record into Northeast Arkansas Friday night, visiting the Piggott Mohawks for a non-conference game. Coming off the lopsided loss to Malden, the Bulldogs were looking to rebound, and the Portageville squad had a strong first half. But, the Mohawks had a big second half and battled back from a 21-8 deficit in the third quarter to post a 30-21 win.

The Bulldogs chose to defer following the coin toss, and would kick-off to the Mohawks. That initial drive stalled quickly, though, setting up the Bulldogs first score. The touchdown came with 8:42 to go in the first quarter as Portageville's Daniel McCray took it in from three yards out. The PAT was good and the Bulldogs led 7-0.

But, the Mohawk offense would respond in the second quarter, as quarterback Logan Dixon hit Nick McKinnie for a 36 yard touchdown catch and run. Piggott also added the two point conversion and the Mohawks took an 8-7 lead.

Late in the first half the Bulldogs would re-take the lead, as McCray carried it in from two yards out. Quarterback Jon Garrett Kellums then hit Ian Torrey on a jump pass for the two point conversion, and Portageville would enjoy a 15-8 lead at intermission.

On the opening kickoff of the second half the Bulldog's Mario Reed sustained a leg injury and had to be carted-off the field. Initial indications are that he suffered from a broken femur in his right leg.

The Bulldogs would score their final touchdown with 7:38 to go in the third quarter, as a blocked punt was carried in from three yards out by Cameron West. Portageville then went for the two point conversion, but came up short, making it a 21-8 contest.

From that point the Mohawk offense and defense began to dominate both sides of the football, as the Piggott squad rattled off three unanswered scores. The first came on an 11 yard pass to Bradley Stephens, with the final two scores coming on runs by Landon Williams. Williams also notched both of the two point conversions following his scores, setting the final at 30-21.

McCray had 107 yards on 20 carries and two TD's for the Bulldogs, while Williams led all rushers with 112 yards on 21 carries and two touchdowns of his own. Meanwhile, Kellums was 7 of 13 passing for 110 yards and one interception for Portageville.
