Local VFW's Ladies Auxiliary will deliver donations to VA hospital
SIKESTON -- Socks and shirts might not seem like a big deal to some people but to someone without a home it can make a big difference.
The Ladies Auxiliary of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3174 have gathered donations of these basic clothing items many might take for granted and are working to arrange a time to bring them to those that need them.
"Our president found out that there are homeless veterans living at the John J. Pershing veterans hospital over in Poplar Bluff and that they needed things like T-shirts and socks," said Effie Watkins, secretary/treasurer of the Ladies Auxiliary of VFW Post 3174. "So I asked the bingo crowd on Thursday night if they would like to help us collect T-shirts and socks for those homeless veterans. For a few weeks, a lot of the bingo players brought us sacks of stuff and we are going to take some stuff over there."
"We've been hunting for some homeless veterans to help -- that is what our organization is about: supporting veterans and their families. Anything to help the veterans, we're there," said Sue Rogers, president of the of the Ladies Auxiliary of VFW Post 3174.
