BERTRAND - A man was killed when his vehicle was involved in a head-on collision Sunday morning.

According to a Missouri State Highway Patrol report, Charles G. Allen, 69, of Cairo, Ill., was killed in an accident at 8:25 a.m. on Highway 60/62 at County Road 205.

The accident occurred as an eastbound car driven by Lawrence E. Agee, 46, of Ozark traveled off the right side of the roadway then overcorrected causing the vehicle to cross the centerline. The vehicle then struck head-on the westbound vehicle driven by Allen.

Agee was taken by ambulance to Missouri Delta Medical Center for treatment of moderate injuries.

Allen was pronounced dead at the scene by Mississippi County Coroner Terry Parker at 9:10 a.m. Sunday. The death marks the 41st fatality in the Troop E area this year.

In other accidents reported over the weekend by the Patrol, two persons were seriously injured in an accident in New Madrid County.

At 10:50 a.m. Sunday on Route A, a half mile east of Charter Oak, a tractor-trailer rig driven by Steven M. Cummins, 41, of Matthews was traveling eastbound when the vehicle ran off the roadway in a curve and overturned.

Cummins and a passenger in the vehicle, Lisa B. Cummins, 40, of Matthews were taken by Air Evac to Saint Francis Medical Center for treatment of their injuries.

On Highway A, a half mile west of Bragg City in Pemiscot County, at 8:10 a.m. Sunday, an eastbound vehicle driven by Evelyn R. Lawson, 55, of the state of Mississippi traveled off the right side of the roadway. The Patrol reported the driver overcorrected, causing the vehicle to travel off the left side of the roadway, where it overturned.

Lawson was taken by ambulance to the Twin Rivers Medical Center for the treatment of moderate injuries.

A driver and a passenger were injured in an accident at 7 a.m. Sunday on Highway 61, three miles north of Portageville. According to the Patrol's report, Jessica L. Daniels, 24, of Howardville was driving southbound when her vehicle went off the right side of the roadway. Overcorrecting, the vehicle then traveled off the left side of the roadway before overturning.

Seriously injured in the accident was passenger, Jessica D. Holmes, 26, of Portageville. She was taken by Air Evac to the Saint Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau. Daniels had minor injuries and was taken by ambulance to the Missouri Delta Medical Center in Sikeston.
