After splitting with New Madrid County Central last thursday night at the Gideon Tournament, the Portageville Lady Bulldogs were able to achieve their goal, which was to win their Pool. Portageville won the first set, 25-15 and lost the second, 22-25.
"It was not our best night offensively. We made a lot of mistakes that would eventually hurt us. Defensively, I thought we played very well and played very strong at the net in all three matches. Our net play was the best it had been all season. New Madrid played very well in the last set and we struggled to get the ball on the floor," said head coach Barry Branscum.
In Saturday's quarterfinal action, Portageville defeated Senath-Hornersville, 25-11 and 25-9.
In the In semifinal play, Portageville played Holcomb and lost, 20-25 and 17-25. The loss placed them in the Third Place bracket against Clarkton. Portageville won in two sets, 25-11 and 25-6.
This past Monday, Portageville traveled to Cooter and won in two, 25-11 and 25-5.
On Tuesday, Portageville traveled to New Madrid Co. Central.
The Lady bulldogs are now 20-2-1 overall and 6-0 in the district.
