SIKESTON -- Sikeston and Miner city officials will begin working on an agreement for Miner to contract fire protection services from the Sikeston Department of Public Safety.

The Sikeston City Council approved during their regular monthly meeting Monday entering into negotiations with Miner city officials for a fire protection service contract.

"We just want to work with Sikeston to make Miner better with the fire projection," Miner Mayor Darren Chapman said.

Catherine Walters, Miner Board of Aldermen member, said it is hard to get someone to be at the city's fire station all the time, as it is a volunteer fire department.

"And our fire equipment needs to be updated," Walters said. "Sikeston has always been very good to respond to fires."
