SIKESTON -- First-time Sikeston Little Theater director Glen Cantrell said he thinks audience members will enjoy the production of "Bye Bye Birdie" so much, when they leave the theater, they'll being singing the show's songs for days.

"This is a classic, American musical," Cantrell said. "It's basically on a scenario of Elvis (Presley) but with Conway Twitty in mind. It's a great story and has a great plot to it -- and there's a lot of great music."

Later this week the musical comedy which includes a full orchestra will kick off the new -- and 56th -- season of the Little Theater.

"Some of these songs will be very recognizable," Cantrell said.

Among the the play's most famous songs include "Put On a Happy Face," "Kids" and the lively number, "A Lot of Livin' to Do."

Performances are set for 7 p.m. Oct. 16, 17, 18, 20, 24 and 25 and 2 p.m. matinee Oct. 26 at the Theater, located at 506 S. Kingshighway, Sikeston.
